As part of the Lotus Montessori Academy community, your child will have access to violin lessons during the school day. The idea that every child has musical potential and all children are able to learn and express themselves musically permeates the Montessori method. Music activities are respected at the same level as any other form of learning. Teachers are supportive and encouraging of the child’s musical endeavors. Children learn with music, learn about music, and learn by music. Music is incorporated into the Montessori curriculum in the daily classroom environment as well as through music classes and private lessons.

With a full-time teacher for every 7 students, Lotus Montessori Academy has a teacher-student ratio well below other schools and day cares. In many schools across the country, class sizes are growing. There are more and more students in every classroom, but the number of teachers remains the same. This makes it easier for some students to fall through the cracks and not get the individualized attention they need to succeed academically. When there is a lower student-to-teacher ratio, students receive more attention from their teachers. Teachers themselves have more manageable workloads as they have fewer students to keep track of, which in turn translates into them having more time to spend one-on-one with students. 

Lotus Montessori Academy is affordable for families from all socioeconomic backgrounds and cultures. In New York City, staff at the handful of child care centers that have successfully brought together children of different economic backgrounds say difference among families is modest — and even when the overall socioeconomic status of the class might be low-income — parents of different backgrounds learn from each other and staff benefit from having a range of families, from those who might need support beyond child care to others with resources to offer.
